In early 2008, MATK completed the new facility for The World Famous Radio Ranch. It has been a pleasure working with everyone there. The entire staff is one big family and they really know what they are doing. We have been working with architect Ali Olfati. Together we were able to transform their raw space into a new 3-room facility. In addition, the conference room area has been modified to serve as a multimedia classroom and training area. The studios are linked via cameras to the classroom. We really enjoyed this project. At first it looked as though there was no real solution for the studios since the available space was on the second floor. But after several meetings with the staff we came up with a way to use the space for all the business- present and future.
MATK also completed Jungle Funk Studio for actor / comedian Sinbad. It is a small production studio that gives him the flexibility to switch between Pro Tools and video editing, two of his interests. Sinbad has been a client for many years and we have seen his passion for technology grow to now spread to his children, actress / singer / writer Paige and animator / producer Royce.
Look out for Khaliq Glover’s article on the recording of “Possibilities”. This interpretation of the classic “A Song For You” by Herbie Hancock and Christina Aguilera was the standout song of the Herbie’s album, and earned a Grammy nomination. This project was very special to MATK. Not just because of Dave’s many years spent as engineer / tech, but also because it was Lisa’s first recording in Los Angeles- literally 6 hours after getting off the plane! We worked on the transition of that facility via long distance from Minnesota. Like many other studio jobs, it all came together and the magic was captured. In the end what matters most is the music. When we listen to the song we actually remember the basic tracks being recorded live, as well as what it took to prep the facility for this historic session.
Congratulations to Lisa Hampton!
In 2006 Lisa served as recording / assistant engineer / Pro Tools operator on several projects. December 8th, 2006 Grammy nominations were announced and two of the projects she worked on were nominated over 5 different categories: Prince’s “3121” and Justin Timberlake’s “FutureSex/LoveSounds”.
Lisa assisted chief engineer Ian Boxill’s work on Prince’s latest effort “3121”.
She also assisted Khaliq Glover and her husband Dave Hampton on several songs for Justin Timberlake’s “FutureSex/LoveSounds”. They recorded strings at the historic Capitol Studios in Hollywood, under the direction of famed arranger Benjamin Wright.
